Dress shopping take 2

You know how you can have your sights set on something, and then when you get it, it's not what you thought? Well, that's how this shopping experience was. I have been obsessing over a particular gown for a few months, and when I actually got to try it on, it didn't look pretty. I had spent hours scouring the internet to find something I liked, and I thought this was it. But, sadly, it's not going to work out between us. I did try on some others that I liked ok, but none that I loved. But, a big thanks to my good pal Shannon for making it work in her schedule to go shopping with me! I had a great time. Let's do it again!

Oh and the first experience was so bad that I don't even want to talk about it...still.

Jonathan's Answers

If money were no object what would your dream home look like?
Money's not an object to prevent. Money enables. It will enable me to build a castle. A big castle. This home will also be a model for solar and renewable energy. I know it sounds like a funny concept, but it's already all charted out in my mind.

If money were no object where would you shop for clothes?
Money's not an object to prevent. Money enables. I will probably shop at the same places I do now. I don't really know. Clothes aren't high on my priority list. I will get a bunch of custom-tailored suits and a bigger variety of colors of shirts and ties though.

If money were no object where would you like to go on vacation?
All the places I'm going to go on vacation anyway. Money is not an object to prevent you from doing the things you want to do. Russia, China, Slovenia, Egypt, South Africa, Antarctica, Taiwan, Siberia, Greenland, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Canada, Victoria Falls, Bahrain, Indonesia, Alaska, Bermuda, the Bahamas,...

If money were no object would you prefer domestic help or would you cook and clean yourself?
I get almost no satisfaction from cleaning my own house, so absolutely someone else can clean. Cooking... well, someone to help with ideas and shopping, but I rather enjoy cooking.

If you could go back in time, with whom would you like to spend a day with?
Jesus. My Grandpa Gordon in his 20's, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, Frank Bettger, and I'm sure a hundred others...

If you could go forward in time, what would you want to know?
If we've figured out yet that there really is no us vs. them... there is only us, and we make no sense when we destroy one another. I would want to know if as a golbal society we had come to the realization that we need to stop fighting "Them".

If you could be an animal for one day, what would you be and why?
An Elephant or a Lion. The Elephant is a wise and majestic creature, but fierce when angered. The lion is the king of the jungle, no one messes with him, and there's so much power in a lion.

If you could read one person's mind, whose would it be?
I don't feel like I have the right to forcefully attempt to know the thoughts of someone who doesn't want me to know those thoughts. If people really try to read body language and really hear what is in other people's voices, then there's no need for mind reading.

If you could meet a famous person, who would it be?
When I meet famous people, they will include Denzel Washington, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Robert Kiyosaki, and a bunch more...

What "critter" scares you the most?
Spiders I guess... though not really. Maybe rats... just for their tails. My feeling on "critters" is that "All God's Critters Got a Place in the Choir"

If you were stranded on a desert island what one object would you want with you?
I'm stealing Carrie's answer...A water filter.

If you could only have one favorite food to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I'm going to cheat. Italian food.

If you could trade places with one person, who would it be?
Why would I want to trade places with someone? I was born in the right time to bring my gifts to the world.

What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Kiwi Gelato.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A firefighter and then later an astronaut.

Who has influenced you the most?
Too many people to being mentioning names.

What's your favorite book?
Maybe Think and Grow Rich, or Rich Dad, Poor Dad, or The Celestine Prophecy, or Atlas Shrugged.

What part of your daily routine do you enjoy most?
Stretching before I go to bed... don't know.. don't really have a daily routine.

What's your favorite movie?
The Power of One.

Where's the most interesting place you have been?
There is no way I can pick one as the *most* interesting.

If you won 1 million dollars, what would you do with it?
I'm boring on this too. Pay off all debt, bank the money, and find ways of safely investing it to live off the interest. Then, using my time freedom, I'd go out and earn another 2 million.

If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?
Mere wishing for a thing doesn't make it true. This question should read: "If you could manifest one thing in your life, and make it real TODAY, what would it be?" And my answer to that would be that I would have already provided enough value to the world that my financial needs and wants would already be completely taken care of. But the thing that makes those needs and wants worth having is the work (mentally and/or physically) it took to bring them into fruition. So I'm still working on this one.

What makes the world go round?
I would like to say that love makes the world go 'round. But I don't think that's true. What really moves the world is gravity. But, in a human sense, what makes humans move forward is when marketers (assuming titles of President, author, salesperson, etc.) use passion to convey belief which inspires action in large groups of people. The action can have positive or negative results, but the action is always motivated by someone who understands how to use marketing concepts to convey their passion for something to people who buy into what they're saying and take action on what they have heard.

What one thing do you think would create peace in the world?
What I have learned is that I'm not going to be able to change things alone. We're all, globally, going to need to come to an understanding that the human heart is the same around the world, and when we learn to stop focusing so much on this idea that it's somehow 'them versus us', as individuals, as groups, as religions, as races, and as countries, we will learn how truly similar we are. This will allow us to celebrate our differences, and work towards a more common, peaceful, and practical future. Do I think this will be easy? No. Do I think it's possible? Absolutely!

What's the bravest thing you've ever done?
I will come back to this question later.

What's the best compliment you've ever received?
That I am really genuine.

What gift have you received that you will always treasure?
The support and love of people who believe in me.

What was your most embarrassing moment in High School?
I'm sure there are hundreds of things I did that probably embarassed the people around me much more than they embarassed me.

What is the worst gift someone ever gave you?
A jar of pickles that was three years old. I won it for getting the most gutterballs when I was bowling at Gregg Murray's birthday party in 2nd grade.

What is the best gift someone ever gave you?
What is the best gift people can give me? Their love and support, letting me know how much they believe in me.

Humming along to the tune of a DJ

Well, nearly all of our major venues and vendors are booked for the wedding. The next biggest thing on the list is finding a DJ. It's funny, I didn't know that either of us was very picky about music, until we began searching for our song master. Because Jonathan's brother Adam was a DJ for so long, and we've been to several places recently that had a crummy dj, we would really like a good one. A really good one. You know, one who knows what songs to play when so that people keep dancing; one who has some common sense and knows that certain songs are inappropriate at a wedding; one who can read a crowd. Sure we've got a "must play" list and a "no tip for you if you play these songs list" in mind, but that's not quite enough.

Does ANYONE out there know of a good DJ? Any help greatly appreciated.

The Blog Sisters

It seems as if we've started a trend. Since Jonathan and I began blogging, my two sisters thought it was a pretty good idea and they started blogs of their own.

Michelle has one for all the reading she does (http://3mbooklist.blogspot.com/). And you thought I read a lot... I wonder where I learned it.

Jamie just started her blog, and she is one funny girl. (http://jlaemei.blogspot.com/)

They both update theirs pretty frequently, and it makes me wish I updated mine more. But theirs are there and they're updated frequently if you want to check them out.

Florist Found

After all my research, one florist kept springing up. Dawn with Hillside Consultants came with by far the most and highest recommendations of anyone else out there. I spent hours looking through her online picture galleries, pictures of all the flowers from some of the weddings she's done in the past, and decided to give her a call. Ok, I didn't actually call her. I emailed her. I wanted to know if she was willing to travel to Colorado Springs. It turns out that she's based in the Springs. Big plus there. And, after much emailing back and forth (because I am confused and don't know exactly what I want flowers wise), Dawn agreed that we could sign a general contract that doesn't give flower specifics yet, but agrees that she will be the florist who creates flower magic for our wedding. Yay! Thanks Dawn. I'll get back to you soon on the flowers.

Spring 2007 Textbooks

Can you believe this? In all my years of college and graduate school (that makes 5 1/2), I have always had to buy upwards of $200 per semester for books alone. One semester I spent over $750 in books (all bought on-line and used). But this semester, for the first time ever, I have NO books to buy. NOT EVEN ONE! Can you believe that? This is awesome! Everyone should have a semester, or twelve, like this one.

Thank you Al Gore for "your" wonderful invention of the internet!

Reception Location Booked...Finally

Finally! We booked a site for our reception: the First United Methodist Church. It is only five blocks away from Shove Chapel. The reception will be held in their Fellowship Hall. Fellowship Hall is just as nice (if not better) as all of the other locations we looked at, with one exception. There is no dance floor. So, we’ll either be renting one or building one. We’ll see. But, for the price, there really is no comparison. The room is attached to a kitchen, and large enough to hold everyone. Because we’re holding the reception in a church, there will not be any alcohol served. At first we were a little concerned about this, but we decided that alcohol shouldn’t be a necessity for any party. And, since we’re having it in the middle of the afternoon, we thought maybe we could go out afterwards (maybe even back to the hotel for some of Uncle Don’s famous margaritas?). We’re really excited to have found a location that fits our needs, both according to our budget and our size. There are also two baby grand pianos in the fellowship hall. Anyone interested in participating in a bit of a dueling piano show? Sounds like fun to us!
