Smoked Roe
As a gift on the second morning we stayed here at the J Taitokerau, Mark bought Carrie and I some smoked roe to try.
I later learned what roe actually is.
However, apparently smoked roe is supposed to be cut and put on toast, so that’s what I did.
In trying it, I would say that the taste of smoked roe is actually pretty good… quite similar to smoked salmon.
However, the texture was not my favorite. It was a bit like mashed potatoes with a slightly more meaty consistency.
I later also had roe when we went floundering with Marcus.
In any case, I’m glad I got the opportunity to try smoked roe here in Northland, New Zealand.
Thanks Mark!
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the roe is a fish’s equivalent of an ovary.
