What Happens To A Lost Love?
by Jonathan Kraft
This poem was written in 2012 for a client.
What happens to a love that is lost
Or the heart of a lover that believes
in love staying true for all of his days
but then it goes away and he grieves
And what happens to the heart of a dreamer
when he places his trust in someone unique
someone who says they’ll always stay true
But this special connection turns out to be weak
What happens to him when he discovers
the love of a lifetime isn’t permanent
What happens in his mind when he comes to know
this person of his dreams isn’t heaven-sent
He may not get to choose his first reactions
Yes, those may come by pure instinct
And he may conclude from those first moments
that his life and this feeling will be forever linked
He may not have a ballot or vote
the time and date of his beloved’s leaving
He may not get to choose the event
But he does get to choose this event’s meaning
He gets to decide just how to move forward
He can wallow in the mire a little while
But if he wants, he can use this moment
as a place to build from with style
If you are there, or know someone who is
this place can be quite scary
But richer or poorer, or worse or better
All situations in life are temporary
It may not feel that way right now
It may feel your whole life’s come unfurled
For a while, let your heart be broken
But break it wide open, and share you with the world
This poem was written in 2012 for a client. Here was the original request:
some thing about sad love life ( but still motivating 🙂
I asked for clarification. “To confirm, you are looking for a poem about someone’s love life, how it’s been sad their whole life, but how they continue on looking for love. Is that correct?”
They sent back:
completely your wish ..
