Poem: True World

Written when Jonathan was 14

True World

by Jonathan Kraft

Dear God,
“What happened today?
Was this your plan?
Who killed them?
Was it by your hand?
Who caused this madness?
Why were they killed?
Who thought this idea?
Was it by your will?”

But you are great, almighty, and strong.
Did you know about this? Could you have stopped it all along?

Why aren’t they here, instead of with you?
There are so many, who wish to be few.
Were their lives claimed along with them too?
or is this something, that not even you knew?

Was this the fate, of those who were there,
to end up like this? Was it at all fair?
To pick and to choose who was wanted,
to leave some behind, not undaunted.
To leave them behind, in a pool of blood,
which will soon be joined by the mud?

They are crying, a sad cry of why.
Then they go away, never to forget that nigh.

They don’t change the way they feel about hate,
and their life becomes all but great.
Why won’t they try, to change false fate?
for someone’s future. It’s never too late.

God, I ask you to show them the way.
Help them make tomorrow a better day.
Show them their voice, then help them to pray.
Then, together, we can go out and play.
