July 12, 1996 Jonathan is 16
(Idea came before, but finally wrote it down this day.)
What if the world had never know a child?
It would never know
a smile
It would never know the simply joy
that can be found in anything
It would never know the value of teaching<
or of learning,
for these manifest themselves
primarily in children
Without the life that children bring,
the world would be lifeless, cold, and dead.
But God, in his infinite wisdom and mercy
created the spirit of the child.
It would never know innocence
or understand peace.
So when looking at children
remember that
you are looking at
a miracle.
Totally agree! Sometimes I wish I could still look at the world as I did when I was a child. 🙂
Crazy you wrote that when you were 16.
Yes. It’s easy for that to get kicked out of you a bit I think… viewing the world with childlike fascination and wonder. But it’s definitely possible to do it.
Thanks for reading and for your compliment on my 16 year old writing.
I really enjoyed going back through my poems to post them. Unfortunately many are in storage right now and not typed.
Pretty amazing insight for a 16 year old! I wonder if Deanna was part of the inspiration as Adalyse is definitely bringing back the child in me!
Deanna was one of the inspirations for this poem for sure. I remember that from when I wrote it.
