Rules for Modern Men (Stepfathers)
by Jonathan Kraft
When you are a modern man
in this modern society
at this very most unique
time in history
it can be quite difficult
to know what role you fill
Be sensitive, kind, and patient
and be a strong man still
Be a sound provider,
solid character like a rock
And never be quite so hard
that you can’t take a strolling walk.
Hand in hand walk gently,
and always be ready to defend
against all threats big or small,
knowing when just a kiss will mend.
Be courageous and ready to fight
with the blade of a warrior,
and take off your shoes and don’t track mud
into the hallway or foyer.
All of these rules for men today
ring double or triple true
for a man who becomes a stepfather
to children he only knew
after they had begun to grow.
He didn’t have an automatic “in”.
He had to show up his best every day.
He had to make every time a win.
Thank-you for the choices you make.
Thank you for the mettle you show,
for bringing and keeping us all together,
for being the man they needed to know.
You, my husband, you run the race.
You, the man who comes home with me.
You are amazing with us together,
and more build a beautiful family.

His original request was:
I would like to request a poem a wife would give to her husband that is also her children’s stepfather.
Please mention things that would recognize his character and role as a provider.
I would be happy to have the opportunity to also write a custom poem for you.
