Happy New Year 2011! Auld Lang Syne and Auckland Tower Fireworks Display

It’s the start of a new decade.  That is cause for celebration.

11 years ago, I watched the fireworks on this side of the world on New Year’s eve from a hospital bed.

(I went home Dec. 31, 1999, from knee surgery the day before.)

That was 11 YEARS ago!  It’s completely amazing how quickly time can go.

Carrie and I realized two nights ago that this will probably be the only time in our lives that we will watch fireworks off the Auckland skytower.

A lifetime is a long time, but chances are good we won’t ever been in New Zealand again on New Year’s Eve.

So we stayed at our apartment with our friends Lucia & Ivo and Lucie & Dominick.

The fireworks show off of the Auckland tower was incredible!  At one point, you can see the glass actually flexing about 1 second after the fireworks go off.  This is the sound wave (from the firework explosion) as it hits the window.

The song in the video is Auld Lang Syne sung by Dougie Maclean.

Hope your New Year’s Eve was as memorable, and here’s to a prosperous and exciting new decade!

This is a really beautiful video and I like this music with it even better than all the patriotic music we usually hear with US fireworks. I hadn’t even thought about it being the beginning of a new decade, but indeed it is!! Good things happen in 10s so here’s to a bright future. You guys are certainly making the most of “the journey”. Love ya lots!

I’ve not heard that phrase about good things happening in 10’s, but yes… here’s looking forward to being able to take advantage of all the opportunities life is presenting! 🙂 Happy New Year!

Hey! Actually, it was more percussive than loud… could see the firework explosion and then one second later feel and hear it all in the same moment. Was really cool! How was your New Year’s celebration?

My New Year’s was pretty wonderful! Thanks for asking! I must say though, since having my daughter, I much rather prefer celebrating with her then going out as we did this year, but it was still loads of fun!

Really nice! We’ve enjoyed it here. Sad that it’s time to move on here shortly, but we’ll be back as we’ve made some great friends and enjoyed some incredible times.
