What’s Holding You Back
by Jonathan Kraft
Maybe you’ve been burned or hurt in the past.
Maybe you had something that you thought would last.
Maybe something grew quick, then went away as fast.
Maybe you feel that your best days have passed.
Tom built a business that would change the world
He knew that for him, banners would be unfurled
But Tom, one day, lost all of these things.
His fiancee left abruptly, taking both rings.
He later discovered, she’d taken most everything,
She had left town, with a man that could sing.
And when she went away, his life went down spiral.
His business got sick, and then it went viral.
His money, his heart, and life felt hostile
He thought that nothing would ever be worthwhile.
Maybe you find yourself in shoes like Tom had
He first was in shock, then he got really mad.
Then he spent a whole year, just feeling really sad.
He felt no one’s life had ever been as bad.
And like most people who get a little down
Tom walked around with his face in a frown
Then one day when he was moping around in downtown
Tom met a man who looked like a clown
The man said to Tom, “Hey cheer up old chum.
You can’t get nowhere by sucking your thumb.
Get up, get goin’, just get off of your bum.
Find what you need, and stop being so glum.”
And Tom found his new hope in a big business plan.
He found a new grounding on which he could stand.
He thought it could work, maybe if he really ran
and gave it all he could with his mind and his hands
Then Tom got over maybe, when he was discouraged
For “maybe” is a decision by those who lack courage
Tom gave all he had, even on the tough days
For nothing can deter one who sticks on and stays
His business was based on the challenges he could face
He had to take steps, and live his life’s race
His fears of it not working soon went away,
because of the actions he took every day.
Soon Tom’s wealth returned, and a beautiful wife,
someone who truly loved him, all of his life.
His business improved lives everywhere it went.
People thought Tom’s business, was one that heaven sent.
And what can be learned from this story of Tom’s loss?
If, in the moment, your life feels like chaos,
What’s holding you back from being your own boss,
might be your recipe, might be your secret sauce.
Taking the first step to begin anything new
requires you to bend down and tie up your shoe.
But if you will take steps and boldly pursue,
your dreams and desires can all come true.
For you.
