To the girl at Ascension Lutheran Church
by Jonathan Kraft

Radiance
Among other things
But radiance is the best
word I can think of
to describe you.
I looked in your direction,
and caught you looking at me.
I looked back.
You smiled one of the
most amazing smiles I’ve
ever seen.
I smiled back.
Still smiling, you mouth
the word, “what?”
I look back and say nothing
in reply.

I glance away.
You glance away.
I look back at you,
you look back at me,
still smiling, then
look away again.
I look away.
Our eyes meet once more,
this time without smiles.
Will I ever see you again?
