Poem: From a Retreat In July

July 18, 1997
@ “Fisher’s” retreat
Jonathan is 17

When we argue
and we disagree
and you call me things
which you may not feel,
but they hurt nonetheless;
or in those times when
you ignore me, not to
be hurtful to me, but just
because you’re not paying
attention to anything but
or when you look at
me, and all you want is
what’s on the outside
My clothes, my words, my body;
All these things you would not
do to Jesus, so why are you
doing them to me?
