Contribution

In an instant
it can all mean nothing
A lifetime’s or a day’s worth of dreams
are the same.
And our plans
but a tiny speck,
not even worth sweeping away
And I think fortune to be important?
And I think fame to be important?
And I think things to be important?
No. Contribution is all that is important
in the instant I am gone
Nature shall run its course
and I shall run my race of life
and once my time is gone
and my race is done…
The only thin, fortune, or fame that will remain
(or the only thing, fame, or fortune that stands a chance to last)
will be my contribution.
What have I given to the greater whole?
What can I give to the greater whole?
That is what will outlast my last instant
and what will survive me.
My contribution.
