Poem: By the Beach

By the Beach

by Jonathan Kraft

This was a poem I wrote in response to the following request (he actually asked for 2 poems… one will be published in a couple of days):

i want a poem a bit serious, but funny
it has to be a modern day version of the passionate shepherd to his love (the passionate shepherd to his love by Christopher Marlowe
basically a love poem but has to be appropriate
it has to have
a) An appropriate title
b) 4 stanzas with rhyme scheme
c) Alliteration, similes and any other figures of speech that you would like to include
d) references to activities that are common for your generation era and society

can be asking her to a beach dinner? for a serious poem but a bit funny

So I wrote the following poem:

By The Beach

by Jonathan Kraft

Come with me love. Let’s have dinner on the beach.
We’ll eat lobster, and wine within arm’s reach.
A nice evening for us you’ll see that I have planned.
Maybe I’ll get drunk and show you my head stand.

From our table, you and I can see the water,
and though the time’s sunset, if we find that we get hotter
we can dip in the ocean until we cool down.
I’ll maybe even save you if you start to drown.

Just kidding of course I’ll come to rescue you,
giving mouth to mouth resuscitation too.
All these things I’ll do because I care.
You forgot a bathing suit? You can wear my underwear.

Sharing is one way that I’ll show you all my love;
that you are in my life like a peaceful dove;
Not like dirty pigeons that in cities cause a ruckus…
more like white doves, something like Jesus

Yes you and I were made and meant to meet,
mostly Made for marriage, not merely just to greet.
So come down to the water where I’ve planned a song to sing.
I’ll get down on one knee and give you a wedding ring.

In response to this poem being delivered to the person who ordered, he responded with:

i marked the things that i want you to change with red because its kinda of not appropriate /:

so can you please change it

So I re-wrote the lines that were requested to be re-written, and here is the result.

I’ll give you everything, I’ll be more than fair.

Sharing is one way that I’ll show you all my love;
That you are in my life like a peaceful dove; [Simile]
Not like dirty pigeons that in cities cause a ruckus…
More like a white dove, and someone I can trust

Yes you and I were made and meant to meet,

I’ll get down on one knee and give you a wedding ring.
