If all has gone according to plan, right about now, we are leaving the turtle project at La Tortuga Feliz and are headed back to Bataan. At the time I wrote this (on October 9th) and scheduled it to post…
Should You Come To La Tortuga Feliz?
La Tortuga Feliz. Since we’re not working any more shifts at the hatchery or the beach, we can now announce the Total Turtle Tally from La Tortuga Feliz. Turtle Time! Carrie and I worked the evening shift together last night from 6:00PM-10:00PM. 73 turtles hatched from one nest!
So Much Bug Spray: La Tortuga Feliz
water is also dripping through the plastic covering the hatchery. Never used so much bug spray in my life as here at la Tortuga Feliz.
It’s Turtle Time! Hatching Turtles at La Tortuga Feliz
La Tortuga Feliz: Releasing baby turtles – So we started taking those out and measured and released 60 turtles. It was fun to hear their shells clicking together. They don’t really make sound, other than the little peeps coming from one that got stuck in the fence – we got that turtle out and released it to the ocean.
How Many Liters In A Kilometer
La Tortuga Feliz: Turtle tracks, but no turtle. Patrolled the beach last night with Neil and our guide Carlos last night from 10:00PM-2:00AM. Saw turtle tracks up the beach and back to the ocean, but no eggs and no turtle. Last night was the clearest I have ever seen the constellation Orion.
Thud, Thud, Thud

Raking Leaves And Tarantula At La Tortuga Feliz
La Tortuga Feliz: Seeing big turtles. I haven’t seen any big turtles, but hope to in our time here at La Tortuga Feliz. If I don’t see them here (Carrie already saw one), perhaps we’ll see one while SCUBAing, or maybe when we visit the Galapagos Islands?
Carrie’s Baby Turtles at La Tortuga Feliz
Releasing baby turtles at La Tortuga Feliz. Carrie took someone’s shift at the hatchery last night and helped release 40+ baby turtles.
Kayaking at La Tortuga Feliz
La Tortuga Feliz: Taking the kayak out on the canal behind La Tortuga Feliz, I saw a family of monkeys, a horse, several birds, several lizards, and several crabs. La Tortuga Feliz isn’t all just bugs and turtles.
