Get Thee To Roanoke
by Jonathan Kraft

Other places in the new world
I just really can not say
But Roanoke is one place
that I am bound to stay.

Here in Roanoke colony
Life is really grand
Free to eat and drink
and plant on lots of land

There is land aplenty
and lots of things to do
the natives are so friendly
the skies are really blue

Let’s talk about the foods
Foods you’ve not yet seen
But when you get to taste these
you’ll be very keen

To get to try some more
and see just how they grow.
I’m learning from the natives
because they really know

there are so many foods.
Potatoes are like brown rocks
they grow out in the wild…
amounts that filled our winter stocks

Maize is seeds of yellow
nutritious little seeds
they are sweet and mellow
the plants grow tall like reeds

Enough about the food though
Let’s talk the smoke
tobacco leaves are smooth
breathe deep, you will not choke

A decision to voyage here
will last your whole life long
It’s hard to leave, but you must come
and hear a new bird song

The nature here is beauty
It’s precious and pristine
so luscious and so fresh
and decidedly green.

I really must be off now…
a native game to play
You really must come here
though it’s a long long way

Come and cross the ocean
It’s more than just a hike,
but here you can create your life
exactly how you like.

Original Request:

Can you write A poem. I am really bad at poems. Here is the scenario:
You are a Roanoke settler who has gotten wind of Sir Francis Drake’s poem about the reasons to go to the New World. Write a response poem – it can be funny, sarcastic, pleading, or earnest. (this one can be about 100 – 150 words)

Basically, convincing someone to come into the new world. Reasons of why to come over like good food, good women, good land, etc, or you can get creative however you want.

Please let me know if you’d like me to write a custom poem for you.
