Poem: The Spider In The Scale

It is May 2, 1996 and Jonathan is 16

The Spider In The Scale
by Jonathan Kraft

We have a spider that lives in our scale,
I see him every now and then.
He pops out as I enter the bathroom;
he scares me as he does this and when
he does so, I feel like
I should stomp him into the floor or
do something to him, to get
back at him for scaring me so.

But he is of no consequence to me.
He is like David, and I, like Goliath,
and I remember that, in the end, Goliath
was defeated, and so the spider
continues to make his home
There in the scale. He is happy,
and I am contented to acquire
his company.
