Poem: Confused

Written December 1993 when Jonathan is 13

Confused
by Jonathan Kraft

Confused about life,

confused about dreams.

Confused when there’s no fish

swimming in streams.

Confused about danger,

confused about fear.

Confused when there’s no way

to hide a tear.

Confused about people,

confused about love.

Confused why someone

won’t feed the dove.

Confused about violence,

confused about hate.

Confused why there’s no way

to plan for this fate.

Confused about war,

confused about race.

Confused how it matters,

the color of a face.

Confused about anger,

confused about dark.

Confused how it pulls,

then bites like a shark.

Confused about peace,

confused about light.

Confused why it doesn’t just conquer the night.

Confused about life,

confused about dreams,

but know that the struggle starts inside me.
