For The Best Job In The World
The “best job in the world” or the “island reef job” was a position being offered by Tourism Queensland (Australia). The successful applicant was flown to Australia and given the use of a three-bedroom house on the Whitsunday Islands. Over six months (June-Dec. 2009) the applicant was to maintain a blog, work with photos, video and audio, to share the offerings of the Great Barrier Reef with the world. For the 6 months, the winner also got to take home AUD$150,000 — about US$96,000 (at the time).
Competition was tough. Over 37,000 applications were submitted to the official site. (With a resulting lawsuit over unfairness, blah, blah, blah, etc. etc. etc. the usual crazies came out of the woodwork.) In the process, we had a great time, and virtually *met* some amazing people. It was an awesome contest and we enjoyed being part of it! Here are the application video(s) we submitted.
