Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. Las Vegas, Nevada
Stratosphere Hotel and Casino
Las Vegas, Nevada
When Jonathan and I decided to travel to Las Vegas, again, we decided that since there are so many different options for places to stay, we would try someplace new. We decided on the Stratosphere. We knew going into it that it was pretty far away from everything else on the strip, but we weren’t afraid of walking. The Stratosphere is also really close to the Sahara Monorail stop, so we knew we could always use that if our feet got tired. Our room was on the third floor, and we overlooked the employee entrance. Right outside our window were some of the lights that illuminate the building at night, and it was kind of hard to shut those out at night. The bed was nothing spectacular, but it wasn’t horrible either. It was pretty middle of the road. The bathroom, however, was super tiny. To close the door, we had to stand between the bathtub and the toilet. Also, the way the toilet flushed was pretty scary. You had to close the lid and step back before flushing for fear of being sucked down with it. While, the room itself was not so great, it was pretty good for the money we spent. We probably won’t stay here again, but that’s because it’s always nice to stay someplace new. We would recommend the hotel to those who are not traveling with young kids, and aren’t afraid of a bit of a walk everyday.

As a follow-up to Carrie's review of the Stratosphere, I must say that any hotel you stay in that has a fire alarm go off at 3:15 AM is really going to have to go out of their way in order to get a super-positive review. They didn't go out of their way... in fact, they didn't even say anything about the 3:15 AM alarm when we checked out. It’s not that they have to say anything or compensate us in any way for it... they probably have their own issues to contend with if they had an actual fire, but it would have shown an above-and-beyond type of service had they tried to make up for the 15 minute ear-piercing (and not just because it woke us up out of our sleep) alarm in the middle of the night.
That having been said, I think that sort of sums up my thoughts on the Stratosphere. They definitely didn’t go above-and-beyond in any way, but it was a hotel room that was good enough, especially for the less than $70/night we paid to stay there.
It was far away from… well, everything. But we like walking, and when I got tired of that (after walking to Bally’s twice for the Affiliate Summit), there is the Monorail. And with the monorail station nearby in the Sahara, so we felt okay coming back late at night and not having to walk all the distance, or get a cab (which we also did one night).
I guess my summary of the Stratosphere is that it wasn’t great, and I agree that we probably won’t stay there again. It can probably be summed up by saying that for an inexpensive hotel, it was good enough, but with so many other options in Vegas, they would have to do something more impressive there in order to woo us back down to that end of the strip.
